GEROGLIFICI – ANTICO EGITTO

La figura dello scriba nacque con la necessità di inventariare con precisione gli enormi ammassi di derrate alimentari in entrata ed in uscita dalla casa del Faraone.

Scriba antico Egitto
I tempi di formazione dello scriba erano lunghi. Si andava dalla copiatura dei testi redatti in geroglifico, alla compilazione di miscellanee da opere letterarie.

Solo gli alunni più dotati, quelli che apprendevano la difficile arte del geroglifico monumentale, quello più complicato, riuscivano ad arrivare a corte.

Lo scriba, consapevole del ruolo che ricopriva, custodiva gelosamente i segreti della sua professione e li tramandava di generazione in generazione.

I suoi tradizionali strumenti di lavoro erano uno stilo, un astuccio con gli incavi per contenere l’inchiostro in pasta, una cordicella e, appeso, un piccolo contenitore per l’acqua in cui intingere e ripulire i pennelli.

Gli scribi scrivevano sul papiro, facile da raccogliere e da trasportare.

Il papiro, opportunamente lavorato, formava fogli resistenti e morbidi allo stesso tempo. Gli scribi provvedevano ad incollarli uno all’altro in caso di testi estesi.

Inutile dire che la professione di scriba era la più difficile ed ambita di tutto l’antico Egitto.
Geroglifico

Questo geroglifico mostra l’equipaggiamento di uno scriba: la tavoletta con due incavi per l’inchiostro nero e quello rosso, la cinghia da attaccare alla spalla, la penna di canna e il vaso dell’acqua.

Nella lingua egizia questo segno rappresenta il suono “sesh”. Se viene accompagnato da una figura di uomo, significa “scriba”, mentre se compare anche un papiro arrotolato significa “scrivere”.
