Lo shedeh era un vino talmente pregiato da esser considerato capace di resuscitare i morti. Si otteneva dopo un lungo processo di raffinata elaborazione.
Le pitture murali hanno tramandato le varie fasi attraverso cui si produceva. L’irrigazione, la raccolta, il trasporto nelle giare, la pigiatura, il filtraggio del mosto, l’aggiunta di spezie e miele.
Un’anfora di questo prezioso vino fu ritrovata nella tomba del faraone Tutankhamon.
Un gruppo di egittologi e produttori vinicoli, utilizzando i semi ritrovati e le tecniche del tempo, è riuscito a ricreare il vino bevuto dal faraone bambino.
I ritrovamenti nella tomba di Tutankhamon sono stati fondamentali per lo studio dei vitigni egizi: sono state rinvenute ventitré anfore vinarie.
Tre di particolare interesse.
La prima conteneva vino bianco a bassa gradazione, rispecchiando il fragile sole del mattino.
La seconda racchiudeva vino rosso, più poderoso, come il sole cocente del pomeriggio.
Nella terza vi era il vino shedeh, il più alcolico, sinuoso e gradevole, capace di consegnare al defunto l’energia necessaria per rinascere alla conclusione del viaggio notturno.
Quest’ultima anfora riportava come dicitura “irep nefer nefer nefer”, cioè “vino buono buono buono”, a indicare il livello eccelso, oltre all’annata di produzione, e al nome del capo cantina.
