VI RACCONTO TORINO
Via Santa Maria è un piccolo vicolo, alla spalle della Chiesa di Santa Maria che con una breve curva s’immette nella piazza dell’Università dei Mastri Minusieri per terminare poi in via Barbaroux.
Una lapide ricorda che qui, nel 1636, nacque la società dei Mastri stipettai e fabbricanti di carrozze.
Pochissimi però si ricordano di Eufrasina Bavastro.
Una donna di circa sessantacinque anni che risiedeva in Via Santa Maria nel 1810 ed era esperta nel preparare medicamenti e decotti contro ogni sorta di male. Inoltre sapeva leggere il futuro nelle carte.
La sua clientela annoverava anche signore della buona società, che con la scusa di andare da lei per farsi suggerire un digestivo in realtà la cercavano per la sua abilità nel leggere le carte.
Nel 1914 Mario Gioda parlò di questa donna in un piccolo opuscolo, raccontando che qualcuno, dai cancelli di Palazzo Reale, usciva proprio per andare a consultare Eufrasina.
Gioda svelò anche il segreto della prodigiosa “acqua di luna” che la Bavastro usava per “guarire i suoi pazienti”.
La donna pazientemente aspettava la notte del plenilunio e si preparava con due o tre secchielli colmi d’acqua, sperando in una notte dal cielo sereno in modo da poter usufruire non soltanto di una luna piena, ma anche splendente nel cielo terso.
Prima che facesse giorno ritirava i recipienti, all’acqua aggiungeva un po’ di mirra e chiudeva il tutto in bottigliette sigillate.
Non si conosce il prezzo della confezione, ma si sa con sicurezza che l’”acqua di luna” era molto conosciuta e che c’erano clienti che per averla venivano da fuori Torino sobbarcandosi viaggi di parecchie ore.
Il prodotto andava bene per curare qualsiasi male. L’importante era che l’acqua fosse bevuta lentamente e con la convinzione di trarne beneficio immediato.
Capitò che una domenica nella chiesa di Santa Maria, durante la predica, il prete invitò a pregare per una donna che negli ultimi giorni si era aggravata per via di una infezione data da una piccola ferita ad una braccio.
Eufrasina si mise subito all’opera, trovò la casa della donna ammalata e di nascosto dalle figlie le fece bere un po’ d’acqua di luna.
Dopo tre giorni la donna guarì e andò a raccontare il prodigio, magnificando la Bavastro e la sua acqua miracolosa.
Di Eufrasina, non si seppe più nulla quando lasciò Via Santa Maria per trasferirsi nel quartiere di Porta Palazzo, dove sembra sia morta intorno al 1830.
