Goffredo Mameli

Goffredo Mameli, nacque a Genova nel 1827 dove vi compì anche gli studi.

Le prime poesie furono prettamente in stile romantico.

Dal 1847 in poi inserì numerosi spunti politici, dettati dalle dimostrazioni patriottiche che in quel periodo andavano crescendo .

Furono pubblicate per la prima volta nel 1850 con una prefazione di Giuseppe Mazzini.

Nel settembre di quello stesso anno compose l’inno Fratelli d’Italia, musicato dal Novaro, che diverrà l’inno nazionale della Repubblica Italiana.

Dopo l’incontro con Mazzini, Goffredo Mameli, partecipò ad alcuni fatti importanti del movimento risorgimentale. Il primo giugno 1848 fu portavoce della richiesta di Statuto a Carlo Alberto. Durante le cinque giornate di Milano aiutò la città recandovisi con un contingente di 300 uomini.

Combatté nella I Guerra d’Indipendenza; dopo la fuga di Pio IX partì con Garibaldi da Ravenna alla volta di Roma, dove lavorò alla redazione di una Costituzione Italiana

Il 19 maggio ed il 3 giugno del ’49 si batté in difesa della Repubblica Romana, morì a Roma nello stesso anno.
