IL CONDOTTIERO CREATORE DI IMPERI

Sargon

Sargon era a guida degli Accadi, un popolo semitico, che per molto era stato il vicino settentrionale dei Sumeri, con i quali aveva condiviso buona parte della cultura.

I Sumeri erano divisi in città-stato più o meno indipendenti, Sargon invece intendeva creare un regno unico.

Dichiarò guerra a Lugalzaggisi, uno dei principali capi dei Sumeri e dopo averlo sconfitto lo fece esporre in una gabbia nella città di Nippur. Conquistò poi il resto del Paese, divenendo sovrano dei regni uniti dei Sumeri e degli Accadi.

Tuttavia Sargon non era ancora soddisfatto!

Conquistò l’intera Mesopotamia e con il suo esercito si spinse fino in Anatolia (l’attuale Turchia) raggiungendo poi le coste del Mediterraneo. Regnò per cinquantasei anni e creò il primo impero di cui si abbia notizia.

Dopo la sua morte, i funzionari che lo amministravano non riuscirono ad impedirne il crollo quando venne attaccato dai Gutei, una popolazione montara proveniente da Nord-Est.

Intorno al 2100 a.C., dopo più di un secolo di dominazione dei Gutei, la potenza sumerica rifiorì grazie all’opera di abili capi, tra cui il più eminente Ur-Nammu.

A lui si deve la costruzione della grande ziggurat in onore del dio-Luna Su’en a Ur che originariamente era alta circa 24 metri, con una rampa di scale che conduceva al piano più alto.
