Mandala

In sanscrito mandala significa cerchio.

Sono per lo più disegnati o dipinti, ma anche forgiati architettonicamente e vengono evidenziati nelle piante dei templi.

Sono modelli spirituali dell’ordinamento del mondo (cosmogrammi) combinati in maniere diverse con i quattro elementi dell’orientamento.

Come nel caso dei bersagli contengono un centro. La “limitazione del campo visivo psichico” viene perseguita in vista della contemplazione e della concentrazione, per dirigere l’attenzione verso contenuti spirituali e conoscenze di natura intuitiva, in modo da poterli radicare nella psiche

Al centro vi sono simboli diversi a seconda del metodo e del grado di iniziazione.

Jung concepisce la simbolica dei mandala come formata da archetipi che possono spontaneamente comparire anche su soggetti non istruiti dal punto di vista storico-culturale nel corso di un processo di maturazione dell’anima, nelle visioni o nella libera figurazione pittorica.

Si tratta di simboli dell’immersione dell’introversione in fasi caotiche, che portano a espressione di un’idea del nucleo essenziale dell’anima e della sua intima conciliazione e totalità.

Come sussidi per la meditazione in senso proprio, le immagini dei mandala vengono designate con l’espressione indù yantra.
