Narciso

Diverse versioni narrano il mito di Narciso, personaggio della mitologia greca, figlio della ninfa Liriope e del dio Cefiso .

Una proviene dai papiri di Ossirinco (capitale del XIX distretto dell’Alto Egitto) attribuita a Partenio poeta dell’Antica Grecia, un ‘altra si trova nelle Narrazioni di Canone. La più famosa è quella contenuta nelle Metamorfosi di Ovidio.

Nel racconto di Ovidio, Narciso era un giovane di incomparabile bellezza, desiderato da giovani e fanciulle.

Il giovane, però, orgogliosamente respingeva tutti preferendo passare le giornate nella solitudine della caccia.

Un giorno la ninfa Eco seguì Narciso desiderosa di rivolgergli la parol.
Il giovane udendo dei passi grido:”
Chi è là?”,
La ninfa condannata da Giunone a ripetere solo le ultime parole udite non poté far altro che rispondere:
“Chi è là?”.

Così continuò per un poco finché, trovato il coraggio, Eco si mostrò e corse ad abbracciare Narciso, il quale però allontanò in malo modo la giovane ninfa. Eco, con il cuore spezzato, si rifugiò nei boschi consumandosi per l’amore non corrisposto fino al punto che di lei non rimase più nulla al di fuori della voce,

Così Nemesi, “la dea della distribuzione della giustizia”, colei che provvedeva a distribuire gioia o dolore a seconda di quanto era giusto, decise di punire Narciso.

Un giorno, stanco per la caccia, il giovane si fermò presso una fonte per rinfrescarsi

Non appena vide la sua immagine riflessa se ne innamorò, ma quando si accorse che l’immagine apparteneva a lui e, comprendendo che non avrebbe mai potuto ottenere quell’ amore, si lasciò morire.

Quando le Naiadi e le Driadi vollero prendere il suo corpo per collocarlo sul rogo funebre, al suo posto trovarono un fiore a cui fu dato il nome narciso.

Si compiva così la profezia di Tiresia, il celebre indovino, il quale predisse che Narciso avrebbe raggiunto la vecchiaia solo, “se non avesse mai conosciuto se stesso
