Narra un’antica leggenda che nei boschi norvegesi si aggirasse una bellissima troll di nome Hulda. Un essere magico di bianco vestita e dai lunghi capelli biondi.
Hulda era uno spirito dell’acqua.
Sfortunatamente in Norvegia molte volte l’acqua si ghiaccia e la bellissima troll rimaneva sotto gli strati di ghiaccio per parecchio tempo. Capitò che il giorno di Natale un pescatore decidesse di portare a Hulda un dolce
Trovando il lago in cui viveva lo spirito completamente ghiacciato decise di fare un buco nel ghiaccio con il suo piccone.
Il ghiaccio però era veramente duro e nonostante i colpi inferti il pescatore riuscì a fare solo un piccolo buco.
Mentre il pescatore cercava un’altra soluzione per rompere il ghiaccio, dal buchino spuntò una mano piccolissima, afferrò il dolce che magicamente si rimpicciolì e passò dentro il buco. Da allora è usanza, nel giorno di Natale, portare allo spirito dell’acqua dei dolcetti lasciandoli cadere in qualsiasi buco si trovi nei ghiacci.
