Il dio Shu fu creato dal respiro di Atum e rappresenta il primo oggetto della creazione, il vuoto, l’umidità dell’aria, ma anche il soffio vitale che anima le creature.

Soffio vitale che uscito dal naso di Atum ne fece battere il cuore risvegliandone la coscienza.

Generato insieme alla sorella Tefnut formarono la prima coppia divina assimilata al sole e alla luna.

Nella cosmogonia eliopolitana Shu e Tefnut diedero vita a Geb e Nut rispettivamente la terra e il cielo.

Essi generarono Osiride, Iside, Seth e Nefhti che formarono, con il Demiurgo Atum, la Grande Enneade di Eliopoli.

Il dio Shu è rappresentato con il capo sormontato da una  piuma nell’atto di separare il cielo dalla terra.
