Arca dell'alleanza
Con il Santo Graal è la reliquia più ricercata della storia.

Costruita in legno d’acacia e oro puro per contenere i Dieci Comandamenti consegnati a Mosè, l’Arca dell’Alleanza è citata per la prima volta nell’Antico Testamento.

Gli ebrei la trasportarono nel corso del loro peregrinare nel deserto, sino a depositarla all’interno del Tempio di Salomone a Gerusalemme.

Secondo la tradizione l’Arca, in quanto manifestazione fisica di Dio, sarebbe stata dotata di un potere straordinario, capace di provocare disastri e sconfitte ai nemici degli Ebrei.

E’ grazie all’arca che le acque del Giordano si separarono per far passare gli Ebrei e che le mura di Gerico crollarono per permettere a essi di conquistare la città.

Il racconto biblico narra che l’Arca scomparve in cielo:
“Allora si aprì il tempio di Dio nel cielo e apparve l’Arca dell’Alleanza”.

Stando all’interpretazione comune degli storici l’Arca sarebbe andata distrutta nel 587 a.C., quando i Babilonesi, guidati dal re Nabucodonosor, conquistarono Gerusalemme e distrussero il Tempio.

Non tutti, però, accettano questa tesi.

Secondo Richard Friedman, docente di religione ebraica all’Università della California, non vi è alcun cenno che l’Arca fu portata via, e neanche un commento del tipo:
“E quindi l’Arca sparì e non sappiamo cosa sia avvenuto o dove sia”.
“L’oggetto più importante del mondo, dal punto di vista biblico, è semplicemente scomparso dalla storia”.

Tra le varie ipotesi, c’è chi pensa che l’Arca sia stata sottratta dal Tempio prima dell’arrivo dei Babilonesi.

“Nell’anno quinto del regno Roboamo (1) Seshonq I, faraone dell’antico Egitto, portò via tutti i tesori del Tempio del Signore, ogni cosa, anche gli scudi d’oro lasciati da Salomone”.

Se il faraone portò via ogni cosa, è lecito pensare che portò via anche l’Arca.

Secondo un’altra teoria furono i cavalieri Templari che la ritrovarono nascosta in un sotterraneo del tempio di Salomone. L’arca fu trasportata insieme con altri tesori, in un altro luogo segreto, forse la Cattedrale di Chartres o la Cappella di Rosslyn in Scozia.

Nel 1760 l’archeologo James Bruce, uno dei pionieri dell’esplorazione africana, trovò un documento dal quale si presupponeva un possibile legame tra l’Etiopia e gli Ebrei.

Secondo questa tesi la regina di Saba avrebbe avuto da re Salomone un figlio che fu chiamato Menelik. Quest’ultimo rubò l’Arca dal Tempio e la portò in Etiopia, e più precisamente ad Axum.

Grazie alle ricerche del giornalista inglese Graham Hancock, sappiamo che esiste un tempio in cui si dice sarebbe stata conservata l’Arca.

“Il fatto che esistesse – scrisse Hancock – una popolazione di ebrei etiopi che praticavano l’ebraismo dell’Antico Testamento, che un paese cristiano venerasse una reliquia pre-cristiana e che non esistesse nessun altro paese che sostenesse di possedere la vera Arca erano misteri a cui volevo dare una risposta”.

Honcock proseguì per due anni le sue ricerche e scrisse un libro di quasi seicento pagine, “Il mistero del Sacro Graal”.

Le sue conclusioni tuttavia non hanno fatto chiarezza sulle tante domande che il giornalista si poneva. Infatti, al termine del suo viaggio, il guardiano del tempio di Axum gli impedì l’ingresso. Nessuno, oltre al guardiano, poteva vedere l’Arca, dunque l’unica prova dell’esistenza della stessa era la parola del guardiano.

C’è un altro interrogativo che molti studiosi e ricercatori si sono posti:

che cosa era questo misterioso oggetto?

C’è stato chi le ha attribuito poteri soprannaturali basandosi sulle descrizioni bibliche. Chi, come von Daniken, è convinto che l’Arca fosse una sorta di radio con cui le astronavi di passaggio comunicavano al profeta la loro volontà.

Due appassionati di questa tesi, gli inglesi Blackburn e Bennett, cercarono di saperne di più. Nella Bibbia si dice che chi trasportava l’Arca doveva vestirsi in un certo modo e nessuno poteva toccarla.

Accadde che durante un trasporto l’Arca sembrò rischiare di cadere, un israelita di nome Uzzah allungò le mani per sostenerla e morì all’istante, come fulminato.

E se l’Arca, si chiesero i due inglesi, fosse stata un primitivo condensatore elettrico?

Nella Bibbia è descritta come una cassa di legno dorato con due cherubini d’oro sul coperchio le cui ali sono rivolte verso l’interno e si sfiorano. Questa forma ricorda la giara di Leida, uno dei primi condensatori elettrici nella storia della fisica.

Tutto molto interessante, ma più che aver risposte, troviamo nuovi quesiti.

Come avrebbero scoperto le proprietà dell’elettricità statica gli antichi Ebrei? Come la caricavano elettricamente prima di portarla in processione? E qual era l’utilità di un simile oggetto, oltre al fatto di mandare potenti scariche elettriche?

Poniamoci anche un’altra domanda:

e se l’Arca l’avessero inventata gli antichi egizi?

Secondo Gianantonio Borgonovo, docente di Esegesi del Primo Testamento alla Facoltà teologica dell’Università Cattolica di Milano, ogni narrazione deve avere un aggancio storico. E’ bene rimarcare che dell’Arca non scrive nessun contemporaneo, se si esclude il profeta Geremia.

“Ma il suo testo – continua Borgonovo – è stato riveduto e corretto almeno un secolo dopo, quando il Tempio era già stato distrutto”.

Nei testi biblici l’Arca compare soltanto dopo che il primo Tempio di Salomone fu distrutto e probabilmente l’Arca non si era mai trovata lì. Sarebbe quindi solo un’immagine carica di simboli che diventò un oggetto di riferimento per la tradizione cristiana: quello che contiene una copia delle Tavole, della manna e del bastone di Aronne.

Rimane ancora una domanda.

Perché scegliere proprio l’arca come simbolo?
Forse dipende dalle origini egizie della tradizione israelitica, non a caso fu Tutankhamon a realizzare la più bella descrizione esistente dell’Arca.

Fu il faraone bambino a volere che, sulle pareti istoriate del colonnato che si estende verso est, dal palazzo di Ramses II, a Luxor, fosse inciso un racconto. Sulla parete è rappresentata una raffigurazione simbolica della festa di Opet ricorrenza dell’anno egizio che annunciava il culmine della piena del Nilo, da cui dipendeva la successiva annata agricola.

Sul muro si nota un disegno che sembra rappresentare un’arca, sollevata a spalla mediante aste di trasporto da un gruppo di sacerdoti.

Solo che qui non si tratta di una cassa, ma di una vera e propria imbarcazione in miniatura, sorretta da portantini, come nel contesto biblico.

Il legame tra la festa Opet e l’Arca dell’Alleanza è evidente se si pensa al fatto che gli Egizi usavano portare gli dei in processione all’interno di quei modellini d’imbarcazioni, sostenute dagli uomini per mezzo di doghe.

Durante le feste di Opet, quindi, le barche contenevano piccole riproduzioni di pietra delle divinità egizie, proprio come l’Arca degli Ebrei conteneva le tavole di pietra, il simbolo del Dio d’Israele.

1 – Fu il primo re di Giuda quando alla morte del re Salomone il Regno di Giuda e Israele si divise in due regni rivali. Era figlio di Salomone e della moglie ammonita Naama. Regnò per diciassette anni dal 931 al 914 a.C. e alla sua morte gli succedette il figlio Abia di Giuda.

LA GIARA DI LEDA

Inventata nel 1745 dall’olandese Van Musschenbroek, la giara o bottiglia di Leida (dal nome dell’omonima città olandese) è il prototipo del condensatore elettrico.

Un recipiente di vetro all’interno ricoperto per 2/3 da sottili fogli di stagno. All’esterno altre foglie di stagno incollate alla bottiglia fungono da armatura esterna, mentre un’asta conduttrice, sulla cui cima si trova una sferetta conficcata nel tappo di sughero della bottiglia, funge da armatura interna.

Il vetro è l’isolante.

La bottiglia si carica mediante una macchina elettrostatica, ponendo un’armatura a contatto con il polo positivo della macchina e l’altra con dei manici isolanti.

Mettendo in contatto una sferetta con l’armatura esterna e l’altra con il bottone della bottiglia, tra le sferette scocca una scintilla.

La bottiglia di Leida fu utilizzata per tutto l’Ottocento quale elemento costante negli esperimenti di elettricità.
