In un castello situato a Montebello, in provincia di Rimini, nella seconda metà del XIV secolo, sparì misteriosamente una bambina, che ancora oggi fa parlare di se.

Azzurrina
Si tratta di Guendalina Malatesta vissuta nel Medioevo, ma conosciuta da tutti come il fantasma Azzurrina.

Guendalina era albina e aveva i capelli bianchi. L’albinismo, nel medioevo, era fonte di sospetto e paura. Le sue caratteristiche somatiche, non erano viste con simpatia e, per questo, fu accusata di stregoneria e destinata ad una morte atroce. Per farla sopravvivere e darle una speranza, i genitori non le permettevano l’uscita dal castello. Preoccupati per il futuro della figlia e per proteggerla da tali infamie, decisero di tingerle i capelli con una sostanza a base di erbe, che scuriva i capelli, ma che al contatto della luce emanava dei riflessi azzurri.

Così che, tutti iniziarono a chiamare la bambina con il nome di “Azzurrina”.

La storia che viene tramandata da secoli riguarda la sua strana morte, avvenuta all’interno del castello.

Si racconta che il 21 giugno 1375 durante un temporale, Azzurrina stesse giocando con una palla fatta di pezza e spaghi. La palla rotolò giù per una scala, che conduceva alla ghiacciaia e la bambina corse a recuperarla. Due soldati udirono un grido e si precipitarono a cercarla, ma ogni tentativo di ritrovarla fu inutile. Il castello e l’intero borgo furono setacciati per giorni e giorni.

Azzurrina era scomparsa, come dileguata nel nulla.

Dal 21 giugno, ogni cinque anni, nella notte del solstizio d’estate, nel Castello di Montebello appare il fantasma di Azzurrina, la si ascolta ridere o piangere e si sente la sua voce.

Da tempo molti studiosi ed esperti stanno tentando di capire l’origine di questi suoni.

Dal 1990 sono state effettuate anche delle registrazioni dell’evento, che vengono fatte ascoltare ai turisti che visitano il castello. In questi nastri, realizzati dalla RAI e dall’Università di Bologna, si sente una voce di bambina piangere sottovoce in mezzo ai rumori di un temporale. L’università di Bologna iniziò subito degli studi approfonditi e si riuscì, sempre durante il solstizio nel 1995, a registrare anche il rumore della palla che rimbalzava, il ritocco delle campane e la voce più limpida di Azzurrina, tanto da riuscire a capire chiaramente che pronunciava la parola “mamma”.

Nello stesso giorno dell’anno 2000 la stessa università, registrò ancora i lamenti della bambina.

Oggi il castello di Montebello, è visitato da centinaia di persone non solo per il suo valore storico-artistico, ma anche per il fantasma di Azzurrina.
