Gog e Magog

Evocati nella Bibbia da Ezechiele e Dall’Apocalisse, per più di un millennio hanno rappresentato un incubo per le popolazioni.

Chi o cosa siano non è dato sapere.

A volte Gog è un principe e Magog una terra. A volte Gogmagog è un gigante o un insieme di ventidue popoli.

Neri e deformi divorano feti, ne usano le ceneri per creare pozioni magiche, bevono il sangue delle donne.

Feroci e disumani, impalano, stuprano e sono invincibili.

Un sermone, scritto nel V secolo, rivela che Alessandro Magno fu talmente impressionato da quei popoli, tanto da sbarrare l’accesso all’Occidente erigendo un muro tra due grandi montagne chiamate Mammelle del Nord.

Il Muro di Alessandro era ricoperto da un miracoloso bitume, l’assincitum né punte metalliche, né fuochi potevano scalfirlo.

Nel Corano si dice che il Bicorne (probabile trasfigurazione di Alessandro) ha eretto la porta di ferro ricoprendola di rame.
Gog e Magog furono identificati con sciiti, goti, mongoli, tartari, ungari, ma anche con i khazari, popolo caucasico che abbracciò l’ebraismo tra il 600 e l’anno Mille.

Per lo scrittore arabo Ibn al-Faqih, la parola “turco” deriva dall’arabo “taraka” cioè “lasciati dietro” il Muro.

Muro a volte identificato con delle rovine nel Caucaso o tra Iran del Nord e Turkmenistan.

Gog e Magog hanno occupato ampi spazi nella fantageografia e nella letteratura, segnando i limiti dell’inumano all’interno dell’umano.
