SIMBOLOGIA
L’orso dal punto di vista simbolico ha un valenza poco significativa sebbene sia conosciuto dall’uomo sin dai tempi più remoti. Lo testimonia il ritrovamento di vari teschi nelle caverne dell’epoca dei Neanderthal.
Nei miti dell’Asia del Nord e dell’America Settentrionale gli orsi hanno avuto un grande rilievo. Si credeva che sotto le loro spoglie si celasse un’essenza simile a quella umana e che si potessero unire carnalmente con le donne e generare figli umani.
Artemide, la dea greca, viene spesso rappresentata in compagnia di orsi e le sacerdotesse di Artemide Brauronia sono chiamate “orse”.
Il mito greco delle stelle narra che la figlia del re d’Arcadia Callisto, ancella di Artemide, fu fecondata da Zeus e per questo mutata in un’orsa da Era.
Nei miti nordici Odino appare spesso sotto forma di orso (Bjorn), mentre presso i Celti si trovava una dea, Artio, signora delle selve, il cui attributo era l’orso.
Nella simbologia cristiana troviamo spesso l’orsa che dà alla luce cuccioli informi che la madre stessa modella leccandoli.
Al cucciolo non ancora plasmato è paragonato l’uomo ignorante, che solo grazie alla conoscenza spirituale trova la sua destinazione.
Nell’antica Cina l’orso era simbolo della mascolinità, personificazione della forza e la sua immagine speculare era il serpente.
Sognare un orso veniva considerato una premonizione della nascita di un figlio maschio. Nelle fiabe cinesi l’orso ha spesso il ruolo del nostro “lupo cattivo”.
Nella simbologia psicologica e in quella dei sogni l’orso è interpretato come personificazione dell’aspetto temibile dell’inconscio e come lato negativo della personalità.
