Odino seduto sul suo trono Lidskjalf, con due lupi che giacevano ai suoi piedi, ogni giorno ordinava a due corvi neri appollaiati sulle sue spalle di volar per il mondo e scrutare negli angoli più bui e reconditi.
Quando i corvi facevano ritorno, si appollaiavano nuovamente sulle sue spalle bisbigliando al dio tutto ciò che di segreto avevano appreso nel loro viaggio quotidiano.
In questo modo nulla poteva sfuggire a Odino.
Capitò così che scrutando Jotunheim, riuscì a vedere un’aquila gigante seduta all’estremità settentrionale del mondo.
In realtà l’aquila era uno jotun e stava lì per generare tempeste di vento. Sollevando le sue enormi ali faceva soffiare i venti del nord, quando le agitava, tempeste di ghiaccio correvano per tutto il mondo.
Se le correnti d’aria spazzavano le dimore di Jotunheim, gli jotun balzavano fuori dal loro regno avvolto nel ghiaccio e si lanciavano verso la terra tempestando le valli di neve e blocchi di ghiaccio.
Gli jotun odiavano gli uomini e gli Asi e cercavano sempre di distruggerli … anche con i venti freddi e le tempeste di ghiaccio.
Odino, tuttavia, vide che uno degli Jotun, Mimir, appariva saggio e non rozzo. Possedeva una fonte magica che sgorgava dove terminava una delle radici di Yggdrasil, era la Fonte della Saggezza che custodiva tutta la conoscenza degli jotun e Mimir, che a essa attingeva ogni mattina, era il più saggio di questo popolo.

Mimir nascose l’occhio di Odino in fondo alla Fonte della Saggezza. Quando vi guardava attraverso poteva vedere ogni cosa che succedeva nel mondo, diventando così amico e consigliere di Odino.

In quel tempo nulla esisteva, non il sole splendente, non la luna, le stelle e la terra sulla quale camminare.

Gli Asi erano molto compiaciuti del mondo che avevano creato, ma sentivano che ancora mancava qualcosa in questa meraviglia: l’uomo.
Asgard
Sorgeva in cima al ponte arcobaleno e splendeva più del sole, la recinzione che lo circondava era stata costruita con pali d’oro e doghe d’argento.
Yggdrasil
Al centro della terra vi era un’enorme frassino :Yggdrasil e sinché fosse rimasto in piedi il mondo degli Asi sarebbe esistito.
Thor
Figlio di Odino e di Jord o Jorth dea della terra, una jotun accettata tra gli Asi, era il più forte di tutti gli dei.
Heimdall
Heimdall, figlio di Odino e guardiano degli Asi, fu generato da nove sorelle jotun ed avendo tante madri non poteva che essere bellissimo

In gioventù, ancor prima di appendersi all’albero di Yggdrasil e bere alla Fonte della Saggezza, Odino conobbe uno jotun di nome Loki.
